Unusual itineraries of great fascination, focused on the cultural and emotional aspects of the Libyan and Egyptian Sahara, guided by an Expedition Manager with great knowledge and experience of the region.
ORGANIZATION
A very professional organization aimed at offering small groups of travellers the maximum comfort (obviously within the standards of a desert expedition) combined with the unique fascinating experience of a real expedition into the Sahara desert, as only mobile camps can grant. The fascination of sunsets and sunrises, of story-telling and tea-making around a camp fire, of changing panorama every day, of being the only people around for miles, … the desert at its very best!
Transportation during the expedition:
- 4WD vehicles for the transportation of the participants
- “L’Hotel de Mr Gautier”, i.e. a fully equipped Mercedes Unimog truck
- An extra fully equipped jeep or pick-up to provide logistic support
Staff:
- Skilled and qualified Italian-, English and/or French-speaking Expedition Manager
- Italian cook
- Qualified and experienced drivers and mechanics
- Staff for the setting up of mobile-camps
Meals:
- Meals prepared by an Italian cook
- Imported and locally-bought food, prepared with great care
- Cold drinks (water and soft drinks; in Egypt also wine)
- Spacious dining tent complete with comfortable chairs, electric lamps and even ambiance music
Accommodation
Apart from the capital, where HOTELS of international standard are available, the few tourist infrastructures in the desert are very simple, yet clean and proper. Most of the nights are in MOBILE TENTED CAMPS, the type of accommodation for travellers who wish to experience true classic adventures in beautiful and otherwise "unreachable" areas. What may be missing in luxury is more than made up for by our fine attention to hospitality and the care of our guests whilst camping in the desert.
Tents:
Spacious comfortable mosquito-proofed walk-in dome tents with zip and gauze windows.- Double tents are 4.00 m x 2.80 m - max height 2.00 m, conceived for 4 persons but used only by 2;
- Single tents are 3.40 m x 2.40 m - max height 1.90 m
Staff put them up and take them down, clients are not asked to do anything.
Bathroom:

Special services guaranteed by “L’Hotel de Monsieur Gautier”
- Maximum 3 passengers + 1 experienced driver per vehicle (window seat guaranteed)
- Spacious walk-in dome tents (see above)
- Camp beds with soft foam mattresses (10 cm thick), pillow, bed sheets, light blankets, towels. Clients must provide own sleeping bag (considered a personal item - it is very cold in the desert in winter).
- Daily hot shower (privacy granted by 2 interconnecting squared tents)
- 2 Bush toilets with seat (privacy granted by the tent)
- Spacious dining tent (6 m x 4 m) which can be completely closed in case of wind; complete with electric lamps, tables, table cloths and comfortable chairs
- Staff to pitch the camp
- Music fitting with the environment and in the respect of the group
- Satellite phone
- The support of GPS technology
- A telescope
- Plugs to recharge electric equipment
- Detailed maps
- First aid kit
The fully equipped Unimog Mercedes Truck in particular guarantees:
- Big extra tanks for the transportation of water
- Refrigerators, ice maker and a freezer
